digital x rayChristmas came early to the Wildlife Center this year! A long time WR&E volunteer Dr. Carl Gullick, donated a new digital x-ray machine! Words can’t describe how excited we are about this gift! Anyone that has had a traditional x-ray knows how cumbersome it can be. The development of the films alone can be a real hassle. This machine will be used by both the Wildlife Center and the Houston SPCA.

Besides ease of use and the immediate availability of the x-ray, because the image is digital it can be manipulated just like a photograph to highlight the region in question. False colors can be added to further distinguish an area of interest.

WR&E has been collaborating with the esteemed veterinarians from the College of Veterinary Medicene at Texas A&M University as well as several generous local veterinarians in diagnosing injured wildlife. Another advantage of the digital x-ray machine is that it will allow us to immediately e-mail the x-rays to veterinarians for real-time consult. No longer will our patients have to wait for a veterinarian to come to the Wildlife Center to have an x-ray read.

This gift along with the generosity of many private and corporate donations made the 2009 year a very significant year for the injured, ill, and orphaned Texas wildlife that have come to the Wildlife Center.  WR&E is proud that we can offer with the utmost professionalism all injured, ill and orphaned Texas wildlife a place to grow, a place to heal, place to be wild.
