Wildfires, drought, habitat destruction, hit by cars, trees cut down, illegal gun shot, stuck in fences, tropical storms, and poisoning are just a few of the reasons that 8900 wild animals were delivered to The Wildlife Center of Texas so far in 2011. So many lives were helped due to generous donors like you!
The Wildlife Center remained open seven days per week eight hours per day to accept all distressed native wildlife and provide medical care. We were able to educate over 12,000 children and adults about wildlife and the environment. We maintained an oiled wildlife response team with all credentials and certifications to respond to any wildlife emergency, and provided nine Oiled Wildlife Response Workshops to train volunteers, rehabilitators and veterinarians.
Unusual and rare intakes this year included two American Bald Eagles, five Baby River Otters, two Long-eared Owls, two White-tailed Hawks, one Harris Hawk, one Yellow Rail and fourteen juvenile Brown Pelicans from Mississippi after Tropical Storm Lee. Also, multitudes of migratory warblers, opossums, squirrels, raccoons, hawks and owls were cared for at the Wildlife Center.
As 2011 draws to a close, please remember The Wildlife Center of Texas with a tax-deductible gift because your support and kindness are critical for all wildlife so they continue to have A Place to Grow, A Place to Heal, and A Place to be Wild.
Thank you,
Sharon Schmalz
