The Wildlife Center of Texas Oiled Wildlife Response Team has had a busy 2012. The team members have responded to several drills and spills along the gulf coast. Thirty-five team members have completed their eight hour refresher course for their 24-hour and 40-hour HAZWOPER certification. WCT has already presented two oiled wildlife response workshops this year with plans for 8 more workshops along the gulf coast. The workshops illustrate what is involved in oiled wildlife response. Topics include the laws that protect wildlife, incidence command system, effects of oil on wildlife and humans, correct procedures for capturing, handling, washing and after care of oiled wildlife.
