Forecasts predict high winds, heavy rain and possible flooding in Houston and surrounding areas today. This is the beginning of baby squirrel season and the strong winds could blow baby squirrels right out of their nests. The Wildlife Center of Texas is ready to accept any weather related compromised wildlife that may fall victim to the wrath of Mother Nature.
We have prepared our baby squirrel and rabbit nursery, have added an extra supply of formula for feeding and have put volunteers on stand-by.
Once the storm has passed please check your yard for downed baby squirrels or other compromised wildlife. If you find baby squirrels and they appear uninjured and there are no dogs and cats around you might want to leave the squirrels in an small box near the base of the tree they fell out of so mother squirrel can come retrieve them. If she has not come back in an hour or the weather is too cold then bring them to the Wildlife Center. If you find small ground mammals (rabbits) that have been flooded out of their homes place them in soft rags in a box, keep them warm and then bring them to the Wildlife Center.
If you find injured or orphaned wildlife after hours, put it in a box with soft rags, keep it as warm as possible, and place it in a quiet dark place. Do not attempt to give it any food or liquid and bring it the Wildlife Center of Texas in the morning.

We are open 7 days a week from 9a.m. to 4 p.m. and will take any injured and orphaned wildlife you may find after the storm.
