Harvey has devastated everything and everyone he touched. Houston has shown the world who we are. We are people whose compassion doesn’t stop with our human community, but extends to all life, big and small. We don’t distinguish between human and animal because we all live here and share our home. We all feel fear and suffering. And we have HOPE.

Even under 19 trillon gallons of water, we have responded to over 1,000 rescue calls, admitted over 400 animals, and met thousands of people willing to brave the waters to save a life.

Harvey’s victims didn’t stop with people. Seen below are a magnificent frigate bird, an Eastern gray squirrel, a beaver baby, and a red-eared slider with a hook stuck in his mouth. Pictured above is an eastern screech owl suffering from exhaustion after the hurricane. These photos depict a universal truth. We all need help sometimes.
